Ars Conjectandi, or The Art of Conjecturing; it was the name of one of the first treatise on the theory of probability written by Jacob Bernoulli in the late 17th century. One can invoke the notion of the art of conjecturing to describe the graphic cycle of works by Olena Grozovska since most of them are created using the author’s technique “cabbage-painting”.
Cabbage-painting combines the techniques of the traditional “Nature-painting” with the automatic painting of surrealists, balancing between the chaos of the unconscious motives and the present awareness of the creative action. The idea of transit, transgression is shown directly in the plots of this cycle. Almost all characters are running somewhere. This is the run, march, triumphal procession, or the transit to the other – real or metaphysical dimension.
