The gallery \"ICONART\" represented the exhibition of Oksana Romaniv-Triska “Behind the other side of glass”. Painting on glass by Oksana Romaniv-Triska represents an interesting approach to this ancient method - inspired by the examples of Ukrainian icon-painting of the 14th-18th centuries the author does not only follow, but continues and develops this special art in a very individual way.
In different periods of world culture the art of glass had been presented differently - it could be a decoration, sculpture, stained glass window, or even an icon. In each case, the glass would maintain its amazing property – to alter the colour. In combination with glass a colour creates a light harmony, which is hard to find in other types of art.
To glass painting, Oksana Romaniv-Triska has come through the stained glass window - it was the artist’s specialty while she was studying at the Art Academy in Vilnius. Creativity based on folk icon could also be considered as a continuation of and complement to her scientific work, because working at the Department of Folk Art of the Ethnology Institute of the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine, she explores the folk icon on the glass of the second half of the 18th-19th century.
That is why we should give special attention to the author’s reflections about the source of inspiration and her creativity, which will accompany the viewer during of the exhibition. Therefore, the presented works can be perceived not only from one’s own point of view, but also through the prism of perception of the artist. This dual view to the works will allow a deeper understanding of these outstanding images.
