Borys Sheremeta "Light Through the Line"

/ 25.02.2025—23.03.2025 /

Light — a ray of hope, a thought, an image that strives to break free from the confines of the line.

The line is a dimension that constrains and holds. It symbolizes a boundary, retaining light while highlighting the tension of the struggle for freedom.

In times of war, preserving hope is of utmost importance. The project, which I have been working on since the summer of 2024, aims to reflect the collective pain caused by war and the search for light through this experience.

Each artwork is centered around the line — sometimes it binds and limits, sometimes it tears apart and breaks through thorns, and occasionally intertwines in color. Light emerges through narratives focused on the themes of Christ's Passion, biblical stories of martyrdom, and deeply personal inner images. These works are dominated by motifs of mystery and anxiety, interwoven with hope for renewal. The language of the images seeks not only to convey pain but also to remind us of the strength of the human spirit striving to transcend limitations in the most challenging times.
