Ulyana Nyshchuk "Colour"

/ 19.07.2022—14.08.2022 /

“Colour” – an icon-painting project by Ulyana Nyshchuk War, pain, drama… failure of thinking and way of being… War is an absolute evil. It divided and continues dividing humanity into two groups – genetically immature and mature. The scales of history wander among different generations and sway on different sides – so, from time to time, humanity masters a sheer "evil". The exhibition project “Colour” consists of two parts: the works – reflections on the invasion and the works of “peace”. For the artifacts, the artist chose a good unified shape of the human head – a place where ratio… and emotio… are born. Giving preference to the black and white colour scheme, U. Nyshchuk “speaks” with pain, tears and wounds, but the rays of colour give hope, faith and optimism. The artist balances between a sign, stroke and iconographic reference – and finally fixes the formed author’s idea with a paintbrush. Despite the minimalistic set of the used means, U. Nyshchuk managed to recreate a known to us plot, to update it and evoke audience sympathy. The “Theotokos of Protection” is looking at us, she is full of archaic but at the same time modern and symbolic.
